Scott River, WA
Project Description
Streamline Underground Services was engaged by Telstra as its main civil contractor to extend a 24 fibre optic cable from the Scott River Radio Tower to the Augusta Exchange, a total of twenty three kilometres.
The scope of work on this project called for the optic fibre to be laid through privately owned grazing paddocks, areas under irrigation, near sensitive bush areas and on public roads. Due to rare flora and fauna eight kilometres of cable was installed on Scott River Road itself which required major traffic management.
Methods used included open trenching using our Ditchwitch 8020T in soil/sand, and our Trencor 1360RS which carried out 3000 metres of rock sawing. For the direct installation of the optic fibre cable we used our Vermeer P185 zero tension plough. Directional drilling was also required under wetland areas and bush areas using Streamlines Ditchwitch 2720AT rock drill.
Rigorous provisions were complied with in regard to acid sulphate soil management and rare flora identified in the Environmental Management Plan.
